The contrast of spiritual light and darkness

Light and darkness

Are these the pictures of light and darkness that we see in our mind’s eye when we think of spiritual light and darkness?

As a child I was taught the wordless book in children’s class that the black page stands for our sin and the white page for our heart cleansed by the blood of Christ. This was the simple message that Christ died for my sins.

However even though I accepted this message and was saved at age 4 I struggled with darkness. The black page of my heart did not seem to be turned to light.  It wasn’t that I doubted my salvation but what about the light of God spoken about in the Bible? What was the darkness?

Through an intense journey of nearly ten years I am only now coming to see the difference the realm of darkness versus light.

Light is of God. Coming from God. His Spirit shedding His glorious light in my heart.

Darkness is from the enemy. The battle for my heart. He comes with daggers, false thinking, and worry attempting to keep me in bondage.

In our lives, as we seek to live for Christ how important is it to know that our hearts are filled with light – light that comes from fellowship with God?

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. 2Corinthians 4:6

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. I John 1:5

Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going. John 12:35

Though our human eyes may not see it , the eyes of hearts are aware of spiritual light and darkness. If we sense darkness in our hearts, whether because of the war against the enemy or because of hidden sin, should we not seek Him till His light once again radiates our hearts?

Through my own personal journey I am in the process of writing my first book Heart Knowledge.
