The Visual Gospel

Not too long ago a friend shared some words of wisdom from a missionary family. This family was ministering in a culture where their ability to speak publicly about the gospel was hindered due to political restraints, therefore they had to creatively use every opportunity as directed by the Lord. One thing that they did was purposefully decorate the interior of their home with Christian verses and pictures. When the locals were in their home these were a topic for conversation.

Do we view our homes and communities as a mission field?

These missionaries were purposeful in their intent to lead people to Christ. Our zeal for the Lord in our own communities should equal theirs. The place we live is our mission field, until such time as He might choose to move us.

I have a home based business and have clients frequently in our home, often several times a day. As I looked around our entry-way and my shop I realized that we have numerous forms of what I might call the visual Gospel.

Right near the front door hangs a picture of Jesus.

Then there are various Scriptures throughout the house.

Hanging in my shop is this sign.

In the client bathroom we have several more poems and prayers.

All these have been a topic of conversation with those who have entered our home, more times than I can count.

Do we forget the darkness of the lost and the power of His light within us?

When people who are filled with darkness see the plagues, words, and wall-hangings their spirits are confronted with His light and truth, even if they don’t say anything.

Let us all be purposeful, as we ask the Lord to show us areas in which He can shine His light through us, whether it is the decor of our offices, shops, and vehicles or if it is the verbal message of His love. Through each day He can use us to bring glory to His name.

Naomi… Thank you for this reminder! We have several visuals in our home – along with 100 plus sheep, which is why we call our home “The Sheepfold”! It has given many opportunities to share about our Good Shepherd!
